10 Star Trek Episodes That Are Not As Good As People Say

3. The Host (The Next Generation)

The Host Next Generation

Plot In Two Lines: Doctor Crusher gets into a relationship with Trill ambassador Odan and then finds out that it's about what's on the inside that counts, so to speak.

Why Your Trek Friend Says It's Good: The first episode featuring the Trill! Look how different they are! He's got forehead bumps and no spots! How can you not like this Beverley story? It's a good romance coupled with a great twist when the Trill symbiont gets placed inside Riker for a good portion of the story. Did I also mention it was voted in the Top 25 episodes of The Next Generation in Starlog magazine? What more kudos could you ask for than that? Why It's Not Actually That Good: I could just repeat the paragraph above. For all those reasons it's just not good. I could say this might even be the ultimate love/hate/Marmite episode. If you're a fan of Beverley it's pretty decent as she comes to terms with all the changes and then gets the ultimate "uh oh" twist that could have rivalled the one in Rejoined and, like that episode, shyed away from the thought in a few seconds. Enterprise goes to warp, close credits.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
