10 Stephen King References And Homages In Stranger Things

9. The Body

Speaking of The Body, there's no more obvious nod to an influence than actually including its name as an episode title in your show.

For those who aren't the biggest Stephen King fans, The Body may still ring a bell - it was made into the classic coming of age film Stand By Me, featuring a host of young Hollywood talents (River Phoenix, Will Wheaton, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, and Kiefer Sutherland). In fact, when you look at the talented cast of Stranger Things, there are obvious similarities - but the comparison doesn't stop there.

The Body was very much a story about the end of childhood for four young boys, looking to find the body of a local kid rumoured to have been hit by a train. They figure they'll be heroes if they recover his remains, but the tale is more about the journey than the end result.

Stranger Things has similar themes: four friends; the search for someone lost - though as Stranger Things fans know, despite there being a body, Will Byers isn't quite dead; the end of childhood, or at least the total innocence of childhood.

Stranger Things even throws in a scene set alongside some railroad tracks for good measure - very much an iconic image from both King's novella and its big-screen adaptation.
