10 Stephen King References And Homages In Stranger Things

2. Kill It With A Slingshot

Stranger Things Firestarter
Netflix

As already mentioned, Stranger Things was heavily influenced by It.

Well, there's one moment in particular from Stranger Things that is a clear nod to Stephen King's novel, and that's the attempt by Lucas to kill the monster using his slingshot.

In It, the Loser's Club actually finds some success with this method. They've learned that It is bound by certain rules, such as being susceptible to the vulnerabilities of whatever form it takes. So they use silver slugs in a slingshot (since the creature has appeared as a werewolf) at one point. In fact, this is how, as adults, they later kill the creature.

Lucas, mind you, has no such luck with his slingshot against the creature from the Upside Down, but luckily, he has Eleven backing him up.
