10 Surprising Early Roles Of Orange Is The New Black Stars
4. Michael Harney - Deadwood
Michael Harney, Orange Is The New Black's Healy, is one of those actors you'll instantly recognise, if not quite knowing his name. He's constantly popping up in minor roles, appearing in a bunch of shows for only one episode.
One of his biggest early roles was as Mike Roberts on NYPD Blue and he also popped up in Law & Order, The Practice, ER, Chicago Hope, Boston Public, JAG and Criminal Minds among many others.
The big deal, however, was Deadwood. On the HBO show he played recurring character Steve "the Drunk" Fields, a racist drunk known for being a huge loudmouth. Harney said in an interview that this was one of his favourite roles. "I think it’s a favourite because of the meaning [the role] brought to the storyline and I thought it was really well written," he said.
He later appeared in Weeds as Detective Mitch Ouellette, and finally landed the role of Healy in Orange Is The New Black. Interestingly, this is the first time Harney has been part of a main cast aside from the short lived NBC show Persons Unknown.
