It’s ironic that Orange Is The New Black’s Norma is almost always silent, because Annie Golden is actually an accomplished singer and Broadway star.

She had her debut on film when she played Jeannie in the 1979 film Hair. That movie, which is an adaptation of the popular stage show, is about a Vietnam war draftee who makes friends with a group of hippies. Jeannie, who’s pregnant and in love with both Woof and Hud, is a pretty great character, and Golden does an extraordinary job with the role.

She was also in the Broadway version of Hair, auditioning with no real experience prior to that. From there, she has played minor characters in Cheers, Miami Vice, 12 Monkeys and I Love You Phillip Morris, and she has continued to impress on stage in The Nutcracker and I, Leader of the Pack, On the Town, The Full Monty, and Violet.
