10 Surprising Star Trek Guest Appearances By Celebrities Who Weren't Actors
6. Bryan Singer - Star Trek: Nemesis
2002's Star Trek: Nemesis is seen as the film that killed the franchise until JJ Abrams rebooted it seven years later. If that wasn't bad enough, later allegations surrounding the private life of director Bryan Singer make the film even more uncomfortable than before.
The filmmaker was riding high after the success of his first X-Men movie when Nemesis began shooting. Singer was a big Star Trek fan and had obviously gotten to know Patrick Stewart over the course of making X-Men. So it was that Singer managed to snag himself a small cameo as a tactical officer who helps the Enterprise fight off the Reman boarding party.
Interestingly, Singer and Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie once devised their own Star Trek series following the cancellation of Enterprise. It was to be set further in the future and depict the decline of the Federation, it was never submitted but rather presciently predicted the plot of Discovery season 4!
Despite this, Singer is on record as saying he'd turn down the chance to direct a Star Trek movie as he'd be "too precious" with the lore. Following his removal from Bohemian Rhapsody in the wake of sexual assault allegations, it remains to be seen whether Singer will be asked to direct anything again.
