10 Surprising Twist Endings (In TV Shows You Wouldn’t Expect)

Futurama was a show based around Fry, a young guy who accidentally freezes himself in 1999 and wakes up in 2999 to a futuristic world of aliens, robots, and crustacean doctors. Fry gets a job at an intergalactic delivery company where he works alongside a gruff robot named Bender and the one-eyed Leela.

In an episode called The Sting, the delivery trio come into possession of a deadly space bee. When the bee attacks them, Fry stands in front of Leela to protect her and is impaled and killed by the bee. Leela is then driven insane by guilt and starts to suffer from a series of bizarre nightmares starring the recently-deceased Fry.

At the end, it's revealed that it was all one big nightmare she was having while in a coma. She was the one impacted by the bee's sting and Fry never died. She kept dreaming about him because he was speaking to her while she was comatose.

Why it's surprising: At its heart, Futurama is manic and surreal comedy show. Every moment of heartfelt emotion that Futurama gave us (and there were several) always came across as an out-of-character surprise.

A heartfelt and emotional twist ending was even more surprising and would've hit all viewers right between the eye.
