10 Terrible Episodes That Almost Ruined Great TV Shows

Oh boy. Last Forever, the final episode of How I Met Your Mother, is so shockingly bad, fans were begging for it to all be a dream or for it to be some sort of practical joke. Unfortunately, it was neither.

For a while in the ninth season, How I Met Your Mother seemed to be working towards a pretty great ending. Sure, the ninth season had a whole lot of dumb filler, like the rhyming episode or a subplot about whose mom makes the best eggs. But all the big emotional moments were pulled off pretty well, like Ted finally letting go of Robin before Barney and Robin’s wedding.

But just kidding! Remember how so much of the series was about letting go and moving on to a better future? The finale features Ted, seemingly not having learned anything from the past nine seasons, running back to a decade old, failed relationship. The mother dies off screen, Barney and Robin get divorced, and everything is miserable.

We don’t even have any time to process the mother’s death before we get a moment with the kids that’s played for laughs, and then Ted goes running back to Robin in an ending that’s supposed to be seen as a victory but is actually just sad.

Way to ruin the entire series in the span of one episode.
