10 Terrible Friends Storylines That Should Have Been Cut
1. Ross Lying About The Marriage Annulment
Ross really can't catch a break on this list, but this has to be the most shocking storyline on the show.
After he and Rachel end up getting married while drunk in Las Vegas, season six starts with the pair attempting to annul their marriage. Ross being upset at the idea of being divorced to three different women, he decides to lie to Rachel about getting the annulment done, leaving the pair still married.
Aside from the fact that this is a pretty shocking deception in itself, it makes no sense for the character.
Up until a certain point, Ross was a pretty smart guy, and somewhere down the line he was written into being an idiot. Regardless, he genuinely cared and loved Rachel, and he wouldn't have lied to her again after his previous mistakes.
It would have made more sense for the pair to have had a deeper story about separating together, with him asking her to stay with him. Instead, his lies come off as cheap and when Rachel does find out, her reaction is used as comic relief, when it could have been much more emotional. It would have given a better pay-off down the line when they do end up together again.
