10 Terrible Friends Storylines That Should Have Been Cut
8. Rachel And Tag
Anyone in real life who attempted what these two got up to would never work again.
Tag is Rachel's assistant at Ralph Lauren in season seven, and the pair eventually form a relationship kept secret from their colleagues. The problem is it all feels quite wrong from the start.
While the idea of Rachel dating someone younger than herself is initially interesting, she goes about it by hiring Tag purely for his looks rather than his experience. By today's standards, that's incredibly controlling, not to say extremely discriminatory in the workplace.
The pair then go on to commit various acts of inappropriate conduct, including having sex in her office, lying to other colleagues and sending prank emails to each other, which ends up in the hands of their boss. Rather than being funny, Tag comes off as extremely immature and the whole plot can be quite grating at times.
It also puts Rachel in a really negative light, and it's a real step back from the independent woman we had grown to admire over the course of the show. Rachel is someone who realised she had to work to get what she wanted, and her entire personal arc was built around that. It may have actually worked better if she had dated an older colleague, only to realise she was the one being used.
