9. Mrs. Glick
Alice Glick was never a main character in The Simpsons universe, but she was an unforgettable face around the neighbourhood, often seen in the background visiting Dr. Hibbert at the hospital, or making herself comfortable at the Springfield Retirement Castle, despite also having her own house on Evergreen Terrace.
It would be during one of her stints at the retirement home that Mrs. Glick would go on to meet her maker, in one of Springfield's most unexpected deaths.
During the episode "Replaceable You", Bart and class nerd Martin Prince invent a robotic seal as part of a science project. After the invention makes local senior citizen Jasper Beardly extremely happy, the so-called robopet is shipped off to the Retirement Castle as a means of raising morale among the residents.
In a bizarre string of events, the robotic seal ends up being launched through the air, accidentally squashing Mrs. Glick in the process and ending her run as one of The Simpsons' favourite background cranks.
