For someone whose name is synonymous with "incompetent fool", Homer on occasion has been known to exhibit rare displays of surprising talent or skill. His musical talent is a touchstone throughout the series, and he has experienced massive success with both his barbershop quartet ("Homer's Barbershop Quartet") and his grunge band ("That 90's Show), winning a Grammy for the former. In the episode "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo", he is able to speak fluent Japanese with Bart after being released from jail there. Other episodes have shown that Homer has fluency in many other different languages including Spanish, Chinese, and in the episode "Simpson Tide," penguin. Homer has had success to various degrees with many different schemes and plots. At one point, in the episode "You Only Move Twice" he owned the successful NFL team the Denver Broncos, given to him as a gift from former boss Hank Scorpio of the Globex corporation as a gift for enabling his takeover of the East Coast. However, he was forced to sell them to pay his bar tab at Moe's Tavern. Whatever temporary abilities Homer gains are usually reset by the next episode, but the series has shown that Homer has the ability (and unwarranted confidence) to do just about anything he sets his mind to.
Hi there, What Culture-ers! I'm William Graff, a 40-year old freelance writer from the wilds of Capitol Hill in beautiful Denver, Colorado. I enjoy many things such as beer, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, record collecting, stand-up comedy, long aimless walks, and of course the Broncos, which is required by law if you live here. I appreciate all feedback for my writing, but I prefer cash and/or deleted Smiths singles in lieu of praise. Rock on!
