10 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Game Of Thrones

8. The Size Of Westeros

HBO

Scale can be a hard thing to convey in a television show, and Game of Thrones has been no exception. Despite the incredible opening credits sequence that swoops over the key locations, many fans are unaware of just how large the continent of Westeros is. A lot of people have compared Westeros to the United Kingdom, due to the accents, cold North and similar flora. However, if Westeros were to suddenly appear on Earth, the United Kingdom would fit inside its shores numerous times. This immense scale means that many of the characters' journeys in the show has taken a lot longer than most people realise. For example, the journey from Winterfell to King's Landing would have taken around 2 to 3 months, judging from the distances involved. Below is a map showing Westeros in rough proportion to the Americas, showing you just how long it would take to get to the capital.
