10 Things Hannibal Does Better Than The Movies

3. A Phenomenal Wider Cast

Hannibal might give us Laurence Fishburne€™s best performance in years, but he€™s not the only actor that gives a caliber of performance not consistently matched since the days of The West Wing. From the danger and vulnerability of Kacey Rohl's Abigail Hobbs to the commanding, icy delivery of Cynthia Noxon's Kade Prurnell, we believe in the motivations of every character. There are no two dimensional performances on this show. We recently saw Michael Pitt deliver an outstanding performance as Mason Verger but there are three supporting actors who really stand out since season one. Raúl Esparza has breathed life into the character of Doctor Chilton. Smary, arrogant and ambitious he proved the perfect foil for an incarcerated Will in season two. Eddie Izzard has delivered a larger than life villainous performance as Abel Gideon without ever verging into hammy. Gillian Anderson's ice queen Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier has been simply sensational - easily her best work since The X Files - and it is easy to see why she has been stepped up to be a big player in season three. The movies delivered some brilliant performances from its primary characters but you would be hard pressed to remember some of the supporting cast members. In Hannibal everyone stands out.
