10 Things Television Fans Found Too Distracting
6. Sudden Unexpected Character Departures
When people get into a television show, they often find themselves caring for the characters and their lives in a way that brings them back, each and every week. Not only is this normal, but it's also what the producers want, and when a series runs for more than a few seasons, the fans can become pretty attached.
A problem arises from the simple fact that actors are people too, and they might run into an issue that requires them to step away from a character they played for years. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it's very noticeable.
The longer a series runs, the more often this kind of thing happens, as any fans of Grey's Anatomy can attest. Characters depart that show all the time, and while they do a decent job of explaining a departure, it can be damaging to the series' ongoing narrative when it wasn't planned.
Other times, a character who was around for a while might just leave the series altogether without any explanation. On That 70's Show, the character of Laurie Forman was originally played by Lisa Robin Kelly, but a recasting replaced her, and before long, the character inexplicably disappeared completely.
