10 Things We Already Know About The X-Files Revival
10. The Show Will Return to Vancouver
One of the unheralded stars of the early seasons of The X-Files - namely the first five seasons and the original feature film - was the location: gloomy, overcast Vancouver and the surrounding area in British Columbia, Canada. For a show focused on delving into the paranormal and other-worldly, the atmosphere this locale provided was absolute perfection. However, after the first five season run of the show, contract negotiations with star David Duchovny - then newly married to now-former wife Téa Leoni - forced the show south to Los Angeles so that the actor could be closer to his family. It resulted in a noticeable change in the series both in atmosphere and tone: almost reflecting the new sunny L.A. setting, episodes frequently became more and more light-hearted, at least for seasons six and seven, causing noticeable dissatisfaction with fans (the series righted course, at least in that area, in season eight, but by then Duchovny was only a part-timer on the show). The return to Vancouver (which was also revisited for 2008's The X-Files: I Want to Believe) is fantastic news, because with it comes the proper atmosphere for the show, and many former crew members, most of whom still reside in the area.
