10 Things We Learned From Sunderland Til I Die Season 2
3. The City Of Sunderland Is The Main Character
Whilst the first series perhaps lacked subtlety in its portrayal of the working-class people of Sunderland, both series faithfully represent the bond between the club and the city. The club needs the city and the city needs the club.
Familiar characters are on hand again to narrate the story with passion and despair in equal measure. The fans’ commitment to their club is unrelenting, with the series punctuated with born and bred supporters making it profoundly clear how much this all means to them. The club mirrors the city, so when the club suffers the city suffers.
A week can either be made or ruined by what happens at 3 o'clock on a Saturday, with fans even travelling down to London without tickets for the Play-Off final just to show their support.
The heart of the documentary truly comes from the insight given by the fans’ intimate interviews. As they say in Barcelona, this is Més que un club.
