10 Things You Learn Rewatching Game Of Thrones Season 1

7. Tywin's Animal Foreshadowing

White Walker Symbol Game Of Thrones
HBO

Tywin Lannister is simply one of the finest characters to fall out of George R.R. Martin's bloodied pen. Cold, calculated, callous, he's a scintillating villain worthy of the Hall Of Fame for bad guys (if such a thing existed...) and in this scene he accurately foreshadows the doom to come. It may seem like Tywin simply skinning an animal, but the meanings run deep.

He's a lion (Lannister) butchering a stag (Baratheon) in the same episode Robert the stag (Baratheon) is killed by a boar on the hunt, though it is later revealed that Cersei and Lancel the lions (Lannister) assassinated the King via poison.

Tywin skinning the stag also mimics how the Lannisters would root out their opposition in King's Landing in order to gain full control. Oh, and interesting side-note, that's a real carcass...
