10 Things You Never Knew About Star Trek: The Animated Series
8. Majel Barrett, Nichelle Nichols & James Doohan Supplied Most Of The Additional Voices
In line with keeping the costs low and with it being an animated series, guest stars would not need to be brought in from outside. As such, additional characters would be voiced by the cast and some of the background staff.
Outside of their normal characters, Majel Barret, who voiced Christine Chapel, would go on to play an additional 15 separate characters. Nichelle Nichols, in addition to playing Lt. Uhura, would voice 13 different characters.
But by far the most voices were played by James Doohanwho would go on to perform a mammoth 40 voices for the series on top of Scotty.
In his initial audition for the role of Scotty for the Original Series, he had performed several different accents for the producers before settling on a Scottish accent.
He finally settled when Gene Roddenberry asked him which he liked best with Doohan responding, Scottish because they were the only engineers he had read anything about.
