So they killed off Brian, a major character, replaced him with a clearly unlikable pooch, then undid the entire thing with yet another time machine trip. Sigh. What did that waste, five episodes? Seven? What? It was only three? Wow. It sure felt longer. You know, we can't help but compare this to The Simpsons, who killed off a character of their own this season. Not a major one, but at least it was a legit death. Brian's death was a cheat. First, there was no reason to kill him off in the first place, other than for a cheap bump in the ratings. Second, there was no reason whatsoever to drag it out over three episodes. Third, but not least - using the time machine yet again to clean up the mess was just lazy, lazy writing. Simply put, they blew it with this one and annoyed a lot of fans. Family Guy will probably chug along at a steady clip for years to come. It can still elicit a chuckle or two. However, they're stuck in Simpsons season 14-18 territory, all thanks to developments like these. Don't agree? Have your own times where the show dropped the ball? Let us know!
