10 Times Futurama Blew It

10. Yo Leela Leela

Fox
To paraphrise Outer Space Potato Alien, didn't they used to be a delivery company? Instead of exploring space anomalies or scientific paradoxes (or delivering anything), the crew explores the behind-the-scenes of children's show production. However thrilling this subject is, some people can't help feeling short-changed when a show with such a much promising format strays away from its original purpose again. Any other sitcom could handle this just fine and it would feel more appropriate. But it isn't the main complaint per se. It's not clear what objective the episode aims to achieve. What's the lesson after all? Was it all about observing a writer's inspiration and creativity? Nope, this was scrapped and led to quirky, innocent (and funny, I admit) aliens who are coerced to star in a new TV show. So, it's about evil corporate exploitation? Contrarily, they are quite satisfied with their fate to Leela's shock who felt guilty for them. The episode is just too detached from anything a casual Futurama fan holds dear, and lacks a coherent message it was intended to deliver. It's not bad, rather ill-defined.
