Sadly, good-natured souls like Ned Flanders are often taken advantage of. Just ask Homer, who seems to have ‘borrowed’ an entire home’s worth of furniture, tools and other assorted items from Flanders.

Sometimes, Flanders will timidly ask for one of his appliances back, or Homer will declare that something is his, only for the camera to cut to the very conspicuous ‘property of Ned Flanders’ label on it. The series has managed managed to wring three decades’ worth of jokes out of this concept.

In Season 8’s iconic “You Only Move Twice,” the Simpsons move to Cypress Creek when Homer gets his job with the charming supervillain Hank Scorpio. As they pack up to leave, Ned approaches and asks, “Homer, ah... About those things you borrowed from me over the years, you know, the TV trays, the power sander, the downstairs bathtub... You gonna be... needing those things in Cypress Creek?”

Homer states that he will, and Flanders hesitates for once. Spurring him along, Homer prompts, “okily… dokily…” At that, Ned happily declares “okily dokily!” and leaves his neighbour to it.
