Yes, Cobra Kai first aired over on the now dead YouTube Red, the first two episodes posted for free to a reception of 5.4 million views in the first 24 hours. But compare that to June of this year where Netflix, the all and powerful, acquired the rights to the cult followed series and hit record breaking highs in household viewership garnering in 50 MILLION in its first month.

With this came a wave of younger viewers being introduced for the first time to the classic 80s film Karate Kid. A huge spike in Google searches for the film proves that Netflix really is the mean girl in school that decides what’s in and what’s out.

Nostalgia is a strong motivator for sure, and Netflix never shies away from this fact. All I can say is… Barney Stinson must be happy that William Zabka is finally the real hero in everybody’s hearts.
