10 Times Star Trek: The Next Generation Tried To Be Sexy
9. Data Adapts To Service The Borg Queen (“Star Trek: First Contact”)
In TNG’s second cinematic outing, the Borg have infested the Enterprise-E and taken Commander Data captive. The Borg Queen herself is there, and she takes a particular interest in him, mostly to get the encryption codes for the main computer but also for his unique android nature.
The Borg Queen reactivates Data’s emotion chip and reveals that she has grafted human skin onto his forearm. Blowing on it softly, she sends a thrill through Data’s body, introducing an entirely new sensation for him to process. Things get a little more intimate, and Data confirms that he is programmed in multiple techniques. They kiss, and then mercifully the scene ends.
Years later, director Jonathan Frakes confirmed that, yes, far from the leering eyes of the audience, in the icky corners of our imaginations forevermore, Data and the Borg Queen did in fact… well, let’s say they performed a level 1 diagnostic on one another and leave it at that.
So, with dozens of Borg assimilating the Enterprise, Zefram Cochrane’s warp test in danger, and Picard going on a shooting spree in the holodeck, Data was busy interfacing with the Borg Queen. Priorities.
