10 Times The Lucifer Show Referenced The Comics (And 10 Ways It Totally Ignored Them)
19. Therapy (Ignores The Comics)
One constant thread that ties the episodes of the show together is Lucifer's ongoing (though half-assed) pursuit of emotional health and self-actualization with the help of therapist Dr. Linda Martin. This subplot, however, is about as antithetical to the source material as any plotline could possibly be.
Where the TV Lucifer is often insecure and unsure of himself, the comic iteration of the titular antihero is defined by his unwavering confidence and steadfast willpower. Gaiman's Lucifer is the embodiment of self-reliance, and would never have any use for therapy (or help of any kind), especially from a human.
Lucifer is one of the oldest beings in creation. He predates every star, planet, and black hole, yet in the Fox/Netflix series, he seeks guidance from a mortal with only a few decades of life experience.
