10 Times The Simpsons Got Political
1. Two Bad Neighbors

If you were around for the heyday of The Simpsons - the Golden Age, if you will - then you likely remember Two Bad Neighbors, and that time President George H.W. Bush (you know, Daddy Bush) moved to Springfield. Homer and George butted heads after Bart became a Dennis-like menace, insulting the ex-President and destroying his memoirs to boot.
Whatever your political leanings, the episode was just plain funny, as was seeing Bush on the show. He had derided The Simpsons earlier on, with the President saying during his failed re-election campaign that he wanted to "make American families a lot more like the Waltons and a lot less like the Simpsons" (Barbara Bush, for her part, at one point called The Simpsons "the dumbest thing" she'd ever seen, though she later apologized).
What makes the episode a great political outing, however, is how subdued the political angle is. It's subtle, noticed mainly in moments like Homer getting along much better with Gerald Ford (who was seen as more of a man of the people, and who would later be a critic of the younger Bush's administration).
