10 Times The Simpsons Got Political

3. E Pluribus Wiggum

Much Apu About Nothing The Simpsons

Ralph Wiggum for President? Well, it makes about as much sense as Donald Trump! He might even be the better choice.

E Pluribus Wiggum from Season 19 focuses on the idea of Ralph Wiggum becoming a political candidate as a joke write-in vote after Springfield winds up with the very first primary in the nation - only, Ralph has no idea whether he's running as a Republican or Democrat. Given his success, both parties lay claim to him, and Homer (who suggested the original ruse) and Bart quickly become supporters.

Lisa, who is only too aware of Ralph's limited capabilities, is wary - but is won over when he tells her that he wants to bring peace to warring parties.

As a critique of partisan politics through the strangest of lenses, the episode is actually quite successful. And you can't help but love a campaign slogan like 'Ralph Wiggum: Pick A Winner."
