10 Times The Simpsons Ruined Homer's Life
1. Marge Throwing Homer Out Of The House
Now, this one’s a bit of a tough call. Some Simpsons viewers question Marge for continuing to stand by her husband, as he continues to devise silly schemes, waste the family’s money and generally put them all in grave danger. For the sake of the show’s continuity, though, she comes around time and again. This is partly due to Homer’s incredible ability to guilt-trip her into relenting.
In “Secrets of a Successful Marriage,” Homer bluffs his way into teaching a class on that very subject at the adult education center. In the process, he divulges a lot of personal secrets about his own marriage, which Marge sees as a betrayal of her trust. Eventually, she throws him out of the house. Now, of course, this whole sorry affair can be seen as entirely Homer’s fault, but he doesn’t paint it that way. Instead, having lived in Bart’s treehouse for a day or so, he crawls back into the house and implores Marge to take him back.
“Marge, I need you more than anyone else on this entire planet could possibly ever need you! I need you to take care of me, to put up with me, and most of all I need you to love me, 'cause I love you,” Homer pleads, going on to state that they’ve only been apart for a day and he’s already living in tattered rags. The status quo is swiftly restored, but it’s quite alarming the way that Homer managed to spin this whole situation to suggest that Marge ruined his life.
