One of the biggest similarities in recent times has been the Jon Snow/Glenn Rhee 'death' scenes. I'd argue that while both characters have been in their shows from the start, they haven't been among the most important members until more recent days. Recently they became key players, and once that happened, they both died. But wait... There's more... Glenn wormed his way out of the situation and 'returned to life' following his brutal 'death scene' and the subsequent 'is he?/isn't he?' hype, while Jon Snow is fully expected to worm his way out of the situation and 'return to life' following his brutal 'death scene' and the subsequent 'is he?/isn't he?' hype. They're very similar storylines that could even continue to follow the same path as both shows return to our screens with Season 6. It's impossible to say if any inspiration was taken from either story, but the similarities really are striking. Can you think of any more links between the show, no matter how far fetcher they may seem?
