10 Times Thunderbirds Was Way Too Dark For Kids TV

2. When The Hood Is Willing to Kill Two Kids

The Hood is a pretty bad guy. In his career as the nemesis of International Rescue he tries to blow a plane out of the sky, triggers a nuclear meltdown, and leaves brains to die in the desert.

Two boys and their father, who runs a tracking station under the guise of a weather monitor, have made regular contact with International Rescue. That’s where The Hood comes in. He realises the possibilities of the tracking station and to get the boys out of the way, encourages them to play in an abandoned mineshaft.

He fires a grenade into the entrance, which causes a catastrophic collapse and sends the youngsters plummeting down the shaft.

The moral of the story is that of The Boy Who Cried Wolf - when the kids try to contact International Rescue for help they are dismissed. This storyline might have been less depressing had it been a couple of snivelling teens doing it but as it was, it was two wee boys being punished for their over-zealous hero worship of International Rescue.

After seeing that it’s hard to imagine any children being caught in a lie for fear of no-one coming to help them if they were in trouble. Or The Hood coming after them. Scary thought.
