10 TV Backstories Revealed In Opening Credits

7. The Beverly Hillbillies

While most younger readers may not know of the Beverly Hillbillies, anyone who watched this show when it came out or happened to view it on Nick at Nite can probably hear the picture. The Beverly Hillbillies is a classic example of telling the backstory of a show through song.

The song tells the story of a man named Jed. He was out hunting, and when he fired his rifle at some food, well, up from the ground came a bubbling crude! The man struck oil, but five seconds into it, and the viewer can plainly see that the man is a poor mountaineer.

Regardless, he struck oil, and with that one fateful stray bullet, he became a millionaire. Well, his friends didn't see why someone who was worth millions should stay in the country, so he loaded up his truck and moved to Beverly... "Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars."

From there, the video shows an old jalopy completely loaded with everything the family owns as they drive from their land of limited resources to become a group of fish out of water in one of the fanciest cities on Earth.
