10 TV Character Deaths Fans Still Aren't Over
4. Tara Maclay - Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer's sixth season remains its most divisive and dark. Tackling mature themes such as depression, addiction and toxic relationships, it was a far cry from the more lighthearted and hopeful episodes of the previous seasons.
Outside of Buffy's troubling mental health issues, Xander leaving Anya at the altar and Spike's harsh assault of Buffy, the biggest moment of the season was the death of fan favourite Tara.
Having left Willow earlier in the season because of her growing reliance on magic, Tara and Willow finally reconciled in season six's final leg. Reunited, they spent the day in bed, talking and making up for lost time, only for the end of the episode to have big bad Warren Mears shoot Tara through the chest whilst he tried to kill Buffy.
A brutal twist that really could have been handled better, Tara's death birthed Dark Willow and had major repercussions on the rest of the series. Despite its narrative importance, it just doesn't sit well with the majority of Buffy's vast fandom.
