10 TV Characters Killed Right In Their Prime

9. Stringer Bell - The Wire

Homeland Damien Lewis
HBO

Stringer Bell was a hugely influential character in HBO's pinnacle of Television 'The Wire'; he sets so many of the shows biggest plot points in motion and was a constant enigma who never quite sat fully in either side of the war on the streets.

Not quite a gangster and not quite a business man, but somewhere in-between, Stringer was a volatile and unpredictable character who kept the audience on their toes. A seemingly remorseless but wildly ambitious man (played by the always magnetic Idris Elba) Stringer's efforts and plans finally seemed to be coming to a head when he was killed off from the show.

Bell was a constant advocate for legitimising and such a future was finally in reach for him when his past actions finally catch up to him and he's poetically gunned down in one of his own unfinished lots.

A man of seemingly endless cunning, there is little doubt Stringer had much more to give before Omar finally came a callin'.
