10 TV Couples That Created Unrealistic Expectations About Relationships
2. Marshall/Lily - How I Met Your Mother
Marshmallow? Lilypad? Ugh. These two are connected on a cloyingly sweet emotional level, and their marriage on television does nothing if not convince the audience that they're not trying hard enough in their own relationships. Marshall and Lily met pretty much the first week of college, and they're each other's only serious romantic involvement. They're so well in tune with each other it's almost creepy, but at the same time somehow endearing, like when they have perfectly synchronised high fives without looking at each other (usually about something to do with their sex life that they happen to be particularly proud of). They know everything about each other, and are willing to do anything to make the other person happy. And all their cute little couple-y moments sort of make you wish that you had someone to dress up with on Halloween. That is, until you remember that you would never be caught dead doing a couples costume. But somehow watching them makes you wish that you were that kind of person.
