Four seasons into Game of Thrones and we were all too familiar with George R. R. Martin's ethos: no-one is safe. Oberyn's trial against the Mountain was shocking, distressing and extremely unsettling. But looking back at it, we should have been more prepared by that point; it's hard to imagine a scenario where Oberyn and Tyrion come out of that season long plot unscathed and it still make great television.
