Stranger Things is one of the few "water cooler" shows to truly capture the public's imagination since Lost went off the air, and with it came an avalanche of fan theories.

The best of the bunch attempts to solve how the Upside Down, the series' horrifying alternate dimension, came into existence. Redditor bloodylollipops claims that the Upside Down was accidentally willed into existence by, well, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp).

We know that Will is a skilled artist with a vivid imagination, per his Dungeons & Dragons games, and the theory posits that Will invented the Upside Down as a fictional construct, which was then created for real once he was experimented upon at Hawkins Lab.

Though the theory states numerous circumstantial reasons why this could be true - such as the Demogorgon not killing Will on sight like everybody else - but surely the single most compelling piece of evidence is that the Demogorgons are inspired by similar creatures from D&D.

Fingers crossed that the upcoming fourth season might lean into this explanation, but don't get your hopes up.
