10 TV Fates Worse Than Death

3. Game Of Thrones - The Unyielding Torment Of Theon Greyjoy

Game of Thrones
HBO

Game of Thrones is notoriously brimming with fatalities, but in case death isn't dark enough for you there's plenty of suffering and misery in there too, and no character undergoes more torment than Theon Greyjoy.

Theon begins the series as a ward to Eddard Stark, but his inner conflict has him trying to win back the love and favour of his dismissive and belligerent father Balon. In an attempt to appease his father and gain respect among his fellow Ironborn, he seizes control of Winterfell, betraying the Starks who took him in as a family member.

You may have thought Theon deserved punishment for this betrayal, but the hell he endures is far beyond reasonable. He is betrayed by his own men, and captured by the malevolent and relentless House Bolton. Locked in a cell in an unknown location, he meets his captor: the sneering Ramsay Snow, son of Lord Bolton.

Here, Theon is tortured, castrated, mocked, belittled, bullied, and generally reduced to a shell of his former self. For a while, he wished he was dead, but thankfully he manages to return somewhat to his former self and redeem his misdeeds in later seasons. Either way, Theon's fate is one of the most nightmarish in all of Game of Thrones, and that's really saying something.
