10 TV Secrets That Were Hiding In Plain Sight

8. Notice The Yellow King - True Detective

The absorbing mystery at the center of True Detective's first season was the identity of the serial killer known as the Yellow King.

But ever the stickler for the little details, creator Nic Pizzolatto ended up hiding a major hint towards the murderer's eventual identity in just the show's third episode ("The Locked Room").

When detectives Rust (Matthew McConaughey) and Marty (Woody Harrelson) visit caretaker Errol Childress (Glenn Fleshler) in the episode, a sign is briefly visible in one shot where the words "Notice King" can be read.

This is clearly a hint for audiences to notice that the Yellow King is right in front of their face, as it's revealed at the end of the season that the killer is indeed none other than Childress himself.

Clearly Pizzolatto was confident enough in his tightly-wound mystery to assume that audiences wouldn't discover the truth this early, but there it is in plain sight.
