10 TV Show Moments That Aren't What They Seem
7. Emilia Clarke Made Her Own Valyrian Monologue Up - Game Of Thrones
Trying to think up a line on the spot is a pretty tough ask at the best of times.
So, you can only imagine how difficult making up an entire speech on your own must be during the shooting of a high-pressure television scene.
Now take that stress and multiply it by 1,000 and you're a little bit closer to the insane situation Emilia Clarke was thrust into on the set of Game of Thrones when filming one specific sequence.
Coming during Season Five's Kill the Boy episode, Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen is seen ordering the death of one of three Mereen noblemen who were said to have conspired against her. After throwing down said order in English a few times, though, director Jeremy Podeswa was told by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss that they felt a Valyrian take was worth a go.
So, just like that, Clarke happily obliged and somehow "cobbled together things that (Daenerys) had said in the past that made sense", leading to the star eventually having a "whole monologue down" just 10 minutes later.
It may not have completely matched up to the script. But for 10 minutes notice, this improvised monologue in an entirely made-up language wasn't half bad and will likely change the way you take in Clarke's Valyrian decree forevermore.
