10 TV Shows Boycotted For Ridiculous Reasons

8. The Muppets Joked About Dating

The Muppets, a primetime series that aired on ABC a few years ago, wasn’t a particularly good show, but quality wasn’t what drew boycotters to the house that Kermit built. It was the fact that The Muppets – often considered a wholesome family group of felt-made creatures – should be ashamed of themselves for selling out in order to be on a primetime comedy series.

The concept of The Muppets on ABC was that The Muppets we all know and love would star in an adult-skewed mockumentary. And even the term “adult-skewed” is laying it on a bit thick, as it’s not like Kermit and Miss Piggy were going all Team America in bed.

Rather, the show was more along the lines of The Office or Modern Family, which apparently was a huge disgrace to the famous conservative group One Million Moms. After discovering the show, the group organized a targeted smear-campaign in order to dissuade former fans of The Muppets from tuning in to this new show.

The group hated the fact that Fozzie and company joked about such deathly topics as drugs and dating, and as such they called for a mass-boycott of the show to prove to ABC that they ruined the Muppets. Sex is not funny, the group argued, and with The Muppets' new show Kermit was doing nothing but perverting the nation’s children.
