10 TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time

6. I Am Not Okay With This

Launched to an eager audience following the enormously popular horror blockbuster It, I Am Not Okay With This saw the former’s brand-new child stars Sohpia Lillis and Wyatt Olef return to our screens for a dark, coming-of-age comedy about a struggling teenage girl who develops telekinetic powers.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the series sought to expand on the short source material to allow an ongoing multiple-season arc. The first season even ended on an intense cliffhanger in order to emphasise this: Lillis’ Sydney ‘accidentally’ explodes her best friend’s cheating boyfriend at the school dance, only to run into the woods fully Carrie-d up with blood and meet a mysterious figure atop a watchtower.

Thankfully, the series was quickly renewed for a second season, meaning viewers would certainly get to see all these puzzles explained! That was, until the pandemic.

Like multiple shows on this list, Netflix decided to reverse their decision and cancel the series, citing Covid-19 related issues. This was already a major bummer, but was made worse when showrunner Jonathan Entwistle’s request to re-cut the last scenes of the show to provide a more finite conclusion for fans were disallowed by the streaming service.

This choice seems especially bizarre now, in the wake of the Duffer Brothers being given permission to retroactively edit the first season of Stranger Things to cover an error referenced in season four. Seems like even when your show is a supernatural horror with a telekinetic, short-haired, teen girl lead, no two shows get the same treatment - a reality that makes for a great shame.
