10 TV Shows That Blatantly Trolled Viewers
6. "It Was All A Dream" - Roseanne
Before Roseanne, there had been few sitcoms that depicted a working-class family in such depth. Although it had incredible comic talent, it was the realistic portrayal of a blue-collar family that allowed Roseanne to be one of the highest-rated shows for years.
So, when the Connors won the lottery in Season 9's opening episode, it felt like the Roseanne's entire premise was thrown out the window. Rather than trying to make ends meet, the Conners found themselves in preposterous scenarios, like meeting Prince Charming or foiling a terrorist plan.
Just when it looked like things couldn't get more ridiculous, the last episode revealed all of the events in Season 9 occurred in Roseanne's imagination.
So, back to normal, right?
Nope. It turns out Roseanne's husband, Dan, died of a heart attack. To help her cope with the loss, Roseanne invented a fantasy that her family had won the lottery.
Although this moment was meant to be real "gotcha!" moment, long-time fans were enraged how the beloved comedy decided to end things on a downer.
This ending was so universally hated, the 2017 revival of Roseanne wiped the slate clean, as if Season 9 never happened.
