10 TV Shows That Cast Major Actors (Just To Die)

9. John Goodman - Now & Again

Agents Of Shield Lucy Lawless
CBS

Cult classic late '90s sci-fi dramedy series Now and Again stars John Goodman as insurance executive Michael Wiseman.

When we say "stars," Goodman appears in just the first 11-or-so minutes of the show, before Wiseman is knocked off a train platform and killed by the oncoming commuter vehicle.

The rest of the series switches gears as Wiseman's brain is implanted into a "perfect" synthetic body, played by actor Eric Close.

Goodman does admittedly re-appear for a few scenes in the mid-season episode "Deep in My Heart Is a Song," playing Wiseman in flashbacks, but for all intents and purposes his presence on the show was a glorified extended cameo.

Given that Goodman's career was going strong at the time, having recently worked with both the Coen brothers and Martin Scorsese, his fleeting presence in a high-concept TV series such as this was most unexpected indeed.
