10 TV Shows That Chose The Wrong Main Character

Who It Was

Going back and rewatching the first season of Heroes, it's almost difficult to comprehend that it's the same show as its terrible later episodes.

One of the biggest problems with the show (apart from the writer's strike and someone thinking that "evil circus" was a great plot idea) was that a lot of characters overstayed their welcome.

The original plan for the series was that it would have a high cast turnover, with most characters only sticking around for a single season. However, when Season 1 proved to be such a massive success, the show-runners changed their minds and decided to keep most of the main cast.

Unfortunately, that didn't really gel with the writing. Most of the show's characters had been written around a specific arc that wrapped up in the final episode. Over the rest of the series, new ways had to be found to work them back into the plot. The result was about the same as trying to arrange overripe fruit to hide the brown spots.

The absolute worst offender was Milo Ventimiglia's Peter Petrelli, who was constantly finding new and exciting ways to not just immediately save the day with his ability of "all the superpowers".

His show's constant shoehorning of him into the plot also meant that all the newer characters who should have replaced him ended up massively underwritten.

Who It Should Have Been

Literally anyone else, as long as it kept the same formula as the first season.
