1. Firefly (2002)
The TV Show: Another Joss Whedon creation, Firefly is a show that was blown out of the sky way, way, WAY before its time. The show followed the crew of Serenity, a Firefly-class cargo ship in a future full of space travel, Chinese profanity, and monstrous creatures (Reavers!!!) that do unspeakable things to their victims. This space-western was only on the air for a single shortened season (aired out of order, no less!), but created one of the biggest fan-bases for any television show ever, canceled or not. By the end of the series, the story was still left wide open, with endless opportunities for future storylines. It is, quite simply, a fictional world (or worlds) just waiting to start revolving again.
The Film: An overwhelming show of support from Firefly fans allowed Joss Whedon to make one feature film of this series, the fantastic Serenity, but there's still so much more story left to tell. If this can't be brought back as a series, then it most definitely deserves a new movie. I don't even care what the story is--as a fan myself, I don't even want to know, I want to be surprised!--just as long as the entire crew (including both captains: Whedon and Reynolds) are on board. If nothing else follows the Veronica Mars lead, please dear god of everything good and right, let it be this shiny, shiny show. What do you think? Are there any other shows you think should take the Kickstarter route adopted by Veronica Mars? Are there any shows listed here that you think should just be left alone instead? Let us know below.
