10 TV Shows That Made Fun Of Their Fans

2. An Entire Adventure Time Episode Makes Fun Of Fan Fiction

A popular joke in these cases is to make reference to the show's own fan fiction, like Sherlock did with Sherlock and Moriarty kissing. But how about an entire episode that literally is fan fiction?

The Adventure Time episode Fionna and Cake from Season 3 is another bizarre gender swapping story starring female versions of Finn and Jake. It's a pretty strange episode, even stranger than Adventure Time usually is, and that's because none of it is actually happening.

At the very end, Fionna randomly says that she wishes she could date the Ice King, and Cake says "Ice King is the real deal!" Wait, what? Just when the reality of the episode starts crumbling, it's revealed that the whole thing was actually the Ice King reading Jake and Finn his fan fiction of them. He even refers to it using the term fan fiction. He asks them what they thought, to which Jake responds with "uhh..."

The episode is a nice way to ridicule how silly fan fiction can get. But more than anything, it's a way to pay tribute to how creative fans can be with the series and how passionate they are over it.
