4. Morbius, The Living Vampire
What Is It? In the 1970s, Roy Thomas and Gil Kane introduced a new villain for Spider-Man named Morbius. A Greek biochemist, Michael Morbius had attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease with a treatment involving vampire bats and electroshock therapy, but the process mutated him into a pseudo-vampire, granting him many abilities similar to vampirism. He possesses superhuman strength and can glide on air currents, but he needs blood to survive. Unlike true vampires, though, he only has an aversion to sunlight and is weakened by it, but it wont kill him. Although he has battled many heroes over the years, Morbius tries to avoid drinking the blood of innocents, preferring to prey on criminals.
How To Do It Right? Again, this almost came to be. The Blade DVD has an alternate ending where, after defeating Frost, Blade catches a glimpse of a figure wearing a mask. David Goyer has said this was supposed to be Morbius, and that he initially planned on Morbius being the antagonist of Blade II. If theres one thing weve learned from Angel, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood and others, its that people love vampires. Get a good-looking (but also talented) European actor to play Michael Morbius, and youll have legions flocking to tune in every week. Take a cue from Supernatural, which combines eye candy with great storytelling, and theres the potential for a lot of crossover with other characters from Marvels supernatural world. He has a long friendship with Jack Russell, the Werewolf By Night, and Jack could be a very interesting supporting character (as well as possibly being spun off into his own series later on down the line). You could also have a guest appearance by Blade or other vampire hunters from the Marvel Universe, or bring in someone like Brother Voodoo or Hellstorm, the Son of Satan. Marvels supernatural characters are just waiting to be mined for some great stories.
