10 TV Shows That Peaked In Their First Season

8. True Blood

True Blood lost its focus almost instantly after Season 1, and crumbled soon after. Initially, the show was about a telepathic waitress who was in love with a vampire. A character story at heart, it moved itself away from those roots as fast as it could, alienating viewers as it went.

That initial idea in itself was a pretty high concept, but add in vampires campaigning for equal rights, and it became a very complicated story indeed. However, it had a sweet southern charm to it, and supported by Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Nelsan Ellis, definitely had potential.

Once the show moved away from the vampire storyline though, that potential was squandered. The fact that it moved into a narrative about faerie blood and Anna Paquin’s Sookie being a faerie halfling only made things weirder.

That meant that by the end, as well as vampires and faeries, there were werewolves, shapeshifters and witches involved in the show. It all got a bit messy, going against the series' initial vision.

The fact that every episode seemed to revolve around Sookie screwing something up in slightly different ways didn’t help its longevity either.
