10 TV Shows That Peaked In Their First Season

5. Desperate Housewives

Similar in a way to Glee, Desperate Housewives is often tarred with the brush of its later seasons, completely disregarding how strong its first outing was. The show evolved to become a parody of itself, but when it began, it delivered a great season of television.

Over time, it became almost like a melodramatic telenovela, with ridiculous twists and turns. Characters seemed to act without logic or even motivation; whatever was needed to make the show as exciting as possible, that was what they did.

It got old very, very quickly though, and the show was a shadow of its former self as early as midway through Season 2.

The show somehow managed to continue for eight seasons, but the finale dragged in less than half the viewers of the first season. The worst thing about it was how inescapably mean the whole thing became, with the characters getting into worse and worse situations, with zero mirth around any of it.

Desperate Housewives is more remembered for its clunky, poorly-received years, but when it started out it offered an incredibly clever insight into ‘00s suburban culture.
