10 TV Shows That Ran Way Too Long

8. Gilmore Girls

Number of seasons: 7 Number of seasons it should have had: 6, if you€™re generous The sweet-natured comedy-drama about a mother and daughter living in a twee Connecticut town lost its way sometime in the college years. The series began its descent when the once-saintly and mature Rory broke up her ex€™s marriage with an affair, then stole a yacht and dropped out of college to sponge off her grandparents, all of which were treated with the same weight as a toddler€™s temper tantrums. At the same time, the interminable €˜will they won€™t they€™ relationship between her mother Lorelai and Luke Danes met increasingly ridiculous obstacles, including the sudden introduction of Luke€™s twelve year old daughter. The final nail in the coffin came in late season six, when the original creators had a less than amicable parting with the WB. Luke and Lorelai€™s relationship was clumsily ended to fuel the repetitive plotlines of season seven, by which point most of the audience had checked out. It was a sad, undignified end to a once surprisingly original series, which could perhaps have been redeemed had it been granted an earlier departure date.
